Haddon Hall - a medieval and Tudor manor can be reached by: walking - crossing over Lathkill Dale and up over Haddon fields or  road - 2 miles. Open April to September.

Bakewell, famous for its Bakewell Pudding has a market every Monday and Old House Museum in a Henry VIII Tax Collectors Dwelling. Open April to October. 

Rowsley 3 miles away, offers a working flour mill in Caudwell's Mill and Peak Rail with steam and diesel trains running into Matlock.

Chatsworth House is about 6 Miles from April Cottage. 

Darley Dale - Red House Stables Carriage Museum - supplied many of the carriages for the 2005 Pride and Prejudice Film to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall film locations - 5 miles.

Beyond Chesterfield with its Crooked Spire and large outdoor market lie:

Bolsover Castle - English Heritage. This unusual c17 Castle and Riding House is well worth a visit and is close to Hardwick Hall - A National Trust Property.
